Condition of the Farm:

Jeff Roessing, Director of Eighth Day Farm, is attempting no small thing in his mission to bring community together around fresh food. He is working against many obstacles, cultural and economic, to offer the people of Holland, Michigan, a chance to serve each other and participate in the collective farming of produce without any synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides in our own neighborhoods. In simple terms, the product and work of Eighth Day Farm is better food and stronger community.

The vision of Eighth Day Farm naturally allows for the occasion of community development in several significant ways: mentoring at-risk youth, offering low-income families a share of the farm at a reduced price, and educating people in sustainability and nutrition. In its first season as a non-profit, Eighth Day Farm has incorporated over 250 volunteers and employed citizens from the core city of Holland in an effort to bring fresh produce to residents; the farm hosted field trips for young students and is donating flowers to Hospice House patients and nursing homes.

Even while it seems that as a society we have collectively forgotten basic traditions in nourishing body and soul, in eating good food and in serving our own neighbors, Eighth Day Farm is continuing to expand its connections with the community and think creatively of ways to encourage health via local agriculture. We hope you will consider partnering with us in this cause.
