In Eighth Day Farm’s CSA (short for Community-Supported Agriculture), members pay a lump sum at the beginning of the growing season to subscribe to the year’s vegetables. Each week from June through October, members come to pick up their share of what’s in season. You get a steady stream of fresh, local, earth-friendly produce at a fair price, while we get predictable income and reduced risk. It’s a win-win! (Actually, it’s win-win-win since we donate any extra produce to Community Action House for their food pantry and Community Kitchen–about 10% of what we grow.)
At Eighth Day we are not certified organic, but follow a set of organic practices we call Regenerative Agriculture.
When you sign up you can choose between two pickup days/times: Tuesday 3:30-6:00 PM or Saturday 10 AM-12 PM.
Simple Share – $300
A smaller share size with a significant emphasis on easy to use vegetables for fresh cooking. The goal of this share is to be more accessible to families that might not have as much time to preserve or use as large of a bulk of vegetables, but still want to use high quality produce when they are cooking. The season for this share will also end two weeks earlier, running June 5th – October 20th (first Tuesday to last Saturday), 20 weeks in total.
Standard Share – $400
Our normal share size that emphasizes a wider variety of produce and a larger bulk of produce when available with the potential for some amount of canning and freezing for preservation. This share will run June 5th – November 3rd (first Tuesday to last Saturday) and will be 22 weeks in duration.
Co-op Share – additional $250
This is a new idea we tried out last season. In addition to your original simple or standard share, there will be several set times throughout the season in which you will receive a large bulk of specific vegetables with the intention of preservation. Throughout the season this will likely include pickles, tomatoes, peppers, and other produce that we can grow in bulk. Space is limited so please email email@example.com if you are interested in this or have questions.
Notes for CSA Pickups
Please be aware that there are many children and pedestrians around during pick up times. Likewise, we ask that parents be watchful of their children during the pick up for the sake of safety.
Remember bags/boxes. Please bring some kind of basket or bag to load and carry your produce home in. A previous member recommends using old Earthbound lettuce plastic containers to put lettuce and greens in.
Some of the delicious vegetables you can expect to get in your share:
Arugula, Asian Salad Greens, Beets, Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Celery, Rainbow Chard, Collard Greens, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Fennel, Garlic, Onions, Kale, Kohlrabi, Leeks, Romaine Lettuce, Sweet Peppers, Shallots, Radishes, Scallions, Potatoes, Zucchini, Spinach, Sugar Snap Peas, Heirloom Tomatoes, Cherry Tomatoes, Salad Turnips, Winter Squash, Basil, Cilantro and other Fresh Herbs, and more.
The Standard Share will generally receive 8-10 vegetable items per week, equivalent to one full grocery bag of produce (with more during peak season), and the occasional fresh culinary herb.
Each week of the harvest we send an e-mail detailing what you’ll receive and keeping you up-to-date on news around Eighth Day. When you purchase a share you should be signed up for our list automatically. If you’re not receiving our e-mails or wish to sign up another address, click here to subscribe.
