We’re always in need of more help! Get your hands dirty in the garden, or help in the kitchen with The New Fast Food. When we host volunteer days we list them here on our site. You’re also very welcome to contact Andy or John (see below) to coordinate another time.

Maps to our locations are available here.

We ask all volunteers to read carefully our Volunteer Reminders and fill out our Volunteer Waiver/Liability form.

Get Dirty / Garden Volunteers

Looking for ways to free yourself from screens and enjoy the natural world? Unplug by joining us in the garden! Partner in the creation of beautiful green spaces within our city that provide not only food for the stomach, but food for the eyes.

We have two farm sites open to those looking for service-learning opportunities. You pick which site makes sense for you.

South Side / The Growth Center / 709 Pine Avenue

This one acre site is home to all our program work. The produce grown here is donated in the New Fast Food bags to those in need through partnerships with area organizations. John Puttrich manages this site. There are all kinds of special projects along with general upkeep that make it perfect for both those seeking one time volunteer opportunities and those who wish to serve regularly, becoming a part of the fabric of Eighth Day Farm.

To coordinate a time to volunteer at the Growth Center please contact John at 847-987-7585 or john@eighthdayfarm.org.

North Side / The Holland Town Center / 12330 James Street

The 2 acre farm carved out of the parking lot feeds our Urban CSA. Being a little larger than the program location, there is always a need for inquisitive and energetic people to join us in the field. The work varies, ranging from harvesting and washing produce, to weeding or mowing, to small infrastructure projects. Here too we invite people and groups to lend a hand either on a project day or more consistently as a regular volunteer.

To coordinate a time to volunteer at the Holland Town Center please contact Andy at 616-836-6016 or andy@eighthdayfarm.org.

Feed the Hungry / Kitchen Volunteers

We are looking for faithful volunteers to help us bundle produce, combine and package ingredients for our New Fast Food bags. These bags include everything needed for a healthy meal and are distributed to those in need in our local community. We plan to be working out of the Growth Center kitchen. We hope to have a schedule of packing days posted here on our website by March, 2017. In the meantime, if this is something you’d like to talk more about, please reach out and contact John at 847-987-7585 or john@eighthdayfarm.org.
