“The health of the farm is as apparent to the eye as the health of the person”.
- Wendell Berry
WHY COMPOST?
24%
of household waste is compostable according to the EPA.
In addition to decreasing the amount of waste dumped in landfills, composting returns valuable nutrients to the soil leading to increased soil fertility and quality. Food grown in healthy, bio-diverse soil leads to more nutrient-dense food on our plates.
We have a variety of pickup options to suit your needs. Pickups will be on Thursday mornings with the exception of holidays, in which pickups are moved to Friday morning.
Run a business and want to compost? Reach out to Andy@eighthdayfarm.org for a quote.
Take a look at what you should and shouldn’t throw into your bucket.
WHAT YOU DO
- Visit our online store and sign up for the right plan for you. Ask yourself, “How often would I fill a 5-gal bucket with my food scraps?”.
- Keep your 5-gallon bucket (that we provide) near your kitchen.
- When it’s time to swap out the bucket, leave it in your designated bucket location for pick-up. We’ll collect it and leave you a fresh one.
- Your food scraps will be picked up and processed at one of our processing sites.

WHAT WE DO
- We provide you with a bucket and lid.
- We process your food scraps at one of our growing sites.
- Once processed, we use the compost to fuel our vegetable production. Our farm’s bounty is distributed to our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) community and at market.
